Letter from the President
Dear Dolphin Parents,
THANK YOU for an awesome summer season. The success of our club depends on your commitment and active participation, and you came through tremendously. The swimmers had fun learning more about the sport of competitive swimming, as well as forming new friendships. It was great to see the team spirit this season among our swimmers and their families.
Our season end celebration at Rock River Rapids was a great time. We had a couple of parents step in to the Treasurer and Member at Large positions on the Dolphin Board - Thank You Jenny and Kelli. I will continue as President for another season; however, if someone has had time to think about this volunteer position and would like to take the helm - feel free to contact me.
I recently read an article on USA Swimming by Wayne Goldsmith (2004); which I think sums up the great qualities of this sport: "Swimming teaches life lessons that create great people not just great athletes. Swimming teaches team work. It teaches confidence and self belief. Athletes develop goal setting abilities. They learn how to overcome adversity. They learn how to strive for excellence. They develop values and virtues like integrity, honesty, humility, courage and discipline. They learn about health, physical fitness and nutrition. Swimming prepares athletes for life. Swimming saves lives – learning to swim can save your life and the lives of people you love. Swimming is non weight bearing exercise that is great for joints and cardio vascular fitness for all ages".
Remember to experience the excellence of this sport by watching the USA Swimming Team compete in the Summer Olympics, which begin August 8th. I hope to see ALL of you again next summer, or perhaps for our Winter Swim season - and bring some more friends along!
Jo
